What we do...Board of Elections, or BOE for short, is tasked by the Student Code to administer all student elections. The work of the BOE is governed by Title VI of the Student Code. One of the primary tasks of the BOE is to publicize and, with the assistance of ITS, implement student elections. As with any election, before a candidate may appear on the ballot - (s)he must comply with various regulations; BOE is tasked with explaining those to potential candidates. Also, as with any election, there are rules of conduct; BOE is tasked with investigating inappropriate pre-election behavior and enforcing the law in the form of fines and disqualifications. Occasionally someone inevitably disagrees with us and we have to go to court to resolve the conflict, Student Supreme Court that is; in such case, members of the board act as counsels arguing a case before a panel of judges. If you're a member of the BOE, in addition to being a bureaucrat, you can be a teacher, a cop, a judge, and a lawyer. No other branch of Student Government, or any government for that matter, offers such versatile set of duties. Join us -- you will not regret it. Who we are...Peter Gillooly, Chairman |
