Tar Heels make finals in four events
April 20, 2009
OAK RIDGE, TN - The Tar Heels went into this year's SIRA Regatta with high goals, though the rowing community as a whole did not expect much from this year's crew. Despite being the underdog in most events, the Heels saw success across the board, with most boats making it to row on Sunday.
The big winners this weekend were the oarsmen in the Novice Lightweight 4+. The boat easily rowed away from their competition taking home a gold medal and the Tar Heels first SIRA trophy in several years.
Giving in to the craze that is Twitter, the UNC Men's Crew will try out Twitter to update our parents, friends and alumni on the happenings at the lake, regattas and everywhere in between. Over the rest of the spring season, we will try to update people daily on the team's activities, and provide live updates on the crew's progress at the SIRA and Dad Vail regattas.
It really is that simple, and is a fantastic tool to keep up with the Rowing Heels as we head into the championship season!
Fundraising Opportunities
Going on NOW!
CHAPEL HILL - As the UNC Men's Crew uses the next two weeks to prepare for the SIRA Championship regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, they are also busy raising money for a potential national championship regatta.
Any Carolina boat that is one of the top eight finishers at SIRA will be attending the Dad Vail Regatta, and possibly the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championship Regatta. These races, however, are not covered in the teams annual budget.
In anticipation of success at SIRAs, the rowers have taken it upon themselves to raise the money for these races, and YOU can help out...
