The Univeristy of North Carolina Men's Crew was established in 1969. The sport club was started by a small group of students who had aspirations of representing UNC in the rowing world. The Michael Nicholls Crew Club boathouse on University Lake is home to the UNC Men's Crew, UNC Women's Rowing, and the UNC Master's Crew.

UNC Crew has built a reputation of excellence by winning ECAC in the Varsity 4+ in 2003, placing 3rd in the Varsity 4+ at IRA's in 2003, winning the Varsity 8+ at ECAC in 2004, and winning the Varsity 8+ at SIRA in 2004.
In the past two years the team has grown to 50 members racing in all categories from the Varsity 8+ to Lwt Novice 4+. UNC Crew welcomes those of all experience levels to row for Carolina. The goal of the crew is to compete at the highest level of rowing, representing the University of North Carolina.
