Adam Cottrell, Head Coach

cottrellCarolina Crew welcomes back one of its own, Adam Cottrell. He is a UNC Crew alumnus who has served as a rower, coxswain, assistant coach, and novice coach at Carolina. We are excited to see the changes he will bring in his first year as head coach of our program.

Adam graduated from UNC with a B.S. in Physics in 2006 and earned a MAT in Secondary Science in 2007. He was awarded with UNC Crew's Oar Award, the highest honor that can be given for service to the team.

 

Bob Millikan, Faculty Advisor

  Bob Millikan, Faculty Advisor and Assistant Varsity Coach, rowed at the University of California - Los Angeles as well as in Philadelphia, Boston, Germany and Ireland. 

  Millikan is Professor of Epidemiology in the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill.  His research focuses on how genetic and environmental factors cause melanoma, breast cancer and colon cancer.  Millikan received his DVM from the School of Veterinary Medicine – Davis, and both his MPH and PhD from the University of California – Los Angeles.  In 2006-2007, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the University College Dublin - Conway Institute in Ireland. 

  Millikan has served as the team's advisor since 1993.

 

Thomas Revelle, Assistant Coach

   Carolina proudly welcomes Thomas Revelle onto the coaching staff this season.  Revelle is a Carolina rowing alum ('08) who has returned to Chapel Hill to continue to be a part of the crew program.

  Revelle rowed for the crew from 2004 - 2008 where he served on the crew's executive board and as team captain his senior season.

  Revelle will be assisting Trent Johnson with this year's novice crew.

 

Trent Johnson, Novice Coach

Trent Johnson begins his second year as the novice men's coach, having been with UNC Men's Crew team now for two years. Johnson came to Carolina with more than a 2 years of coaching experience and six years of rowing experience.

Johnson is a '04 graduate of the University of California at Davis where he rowed for four years, stroking a novice eight to Gold medals at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships and Pacific Coast Rowing Championships, and going onto win silver and bronze medals as a varsity lightweight.

Johnson also rowed for two years in high school at the River City Rowing Club where he went back to coach during the 2003/2004 season. He has also coached several summer camps and learn to row programs.
