As a nation, we are facing a cataclysmic shift from a government in the mold of what our Founding Fathers envisioned to a full-blown, “Europeanized” government with the requisite devotion to paternalism that seeks to keep citizens in perpetual childhood. The impetus behind this agenda comes from both academia and college-aged youth. The UNC College Republicans attempt to counteract these ideas by articulating a coherent argument for the basic tenets of conservatism: limited government, traditional morality, and individual rights.
In order to achieve this mission, the College Republicans utilize various tools and strategies at our disposal. An incredibly valuable tool we have used to directly bring conservatism to the student body is by hosting several prominent members of the Conservative Movement to speak on campus each year. Over the past few years, the College Republicans have hosted guest lectures by former US Attorney General John Ashcroft, former US Senator Zell Miller, columnist and author Ann Coulter, economist Walter Williams, and author Star Parker, among several other conservative speakers. We plan to build on this history of bringing renowned speakers to campus this upcoming year and any upcoming speaking events will be indicated on our “Calendar.”

In order to promote the causes of freedom and liberty this upcoming year, we hope to erect a large temporary memorial of 2,974 American flags on campus in honor of the victims tragically murdered on September 11, 2001 and participating in activities commemorating Veterans’ Day and the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. We will, of course, continue to fight the ridiculousness of the left on campus as certain events arise and play an active part in the on-campus political dialogue by contributing greatly to the editorial pages of the Daily Tar Heel. If you have any additional ideas for events or activities you would like to see the College Republicans participate in next year, please do not hesitate to let us know.
We invite you to browse our website, view photographs of our latest escapades, examine our activity in the Daily Tar Heel, or even make a generous contribution that will enable us to continue to battle the extreme-left on campus. If you would like to get more involved with the College Republicans, join our email Listserv by filling out a form under the “Join” tab, connect with us via our Facebook group, or attend one of our weekly meetings on campus.
