Rogers-Eubanks Road Community

The historically African-American Rogers-Eubanks Road community predates the Orange County regional landfill sited along its border in 1972. This local community approached our chapter of EWB for assistance in addressing their public health concerns related to access to basic amenities and the effects of their proximity to expanded landfill facilities. Since the partnership began in January 2009, we have collaborated with community members to administer a household water and sewer infrastructure survey and test drinking and surface water quality in the community. Continuing efforts include analysis of the results of the water testing, a study of odor, air quality and health, supporting the community in a continuing dialogue with local, state and federal governments, and organizing service projects to clean up the environment and improve living conditions in the community.
