What is Student Government?

Student Government is composed of three main branches: the Executive Branch, Congress, and the Honor System. Other groups included under the umbrella of Student Government are the Carolina Athletic Association, Board of Elections and the Student Supreme Court.

What does Student Government Do?

The Executive Branch advocates for students and serves in a quasi-administrative role on campus; Student Congress passes resolutions expressing the will of students, appropriates student fees for use by student groups, and makes amendments to the Student Code; and the Honor System, including the Honor Court and the office of the Student Attorney General, bring about and decide cases when a student is accused of breaking the Honor Code.

How is the Executive Branch structured?

The executive branch is composed of a number of committees; you can find a list on the "Committees" page. Each committee is led by a chair or co-chairs, who serve on the Cabinet and work to complete the platform of the Student Body President. A group of officers also serves at the discretion of the President. In addition, the Student Body Vice President manages a large slate of external appointees to various campus boards and committees.

Where is the Student Government office?

Suite 2501 of the Student Union. That's on the Pit level, at the far end of the newer part of the Union. Please come by and see us!

What is the Student Code?

The Student Code serves as the bylaws of Student Government. Title I, the Constitution, can only be amended by a student body referendum. The Code is published by the Student Body Secretary. You can find the latest released version here.
