ALUMNI NEWS Where Are They Now? Jonathan Matthews (‘08) will attend Emory University in the fall to pursue a Master of Arts in Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology. William McKinney (‘08) graduated from Yale University with a Masters Degree in Urban Education. William plans to teach math in the New Haven, CT area. Karen Connor (‘08) is on her way to Yale University to pursue Master of Arts in Religion with a concentration in Biblical studies. Lisa Klingenmaier (‘06) will attend University of Maryland Baltimore Campus this fall to pursue a Master of Arts in Social Work and Public Health. Call To Service Cheryl (’02) and Albert (‘03) Meyer departed September 11, 2008 to Micronesia where they will serve two years in the Peace Corps teaching English and working with youth and community development. Emma Griffis (‘03) and her husband, Alex McHardy will depart April 1, 2009 to Kiev to serve two years with the Peace Corps in Ukraine. As volunteers they will work throughout the country to help Ukrainians develop approaches to effecting positive change and skills necessary for communication in the global community. Accomplishments Sara Pugh (‘03) was commissioned as a provisional elder in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church on June 15, 2009. Matt Viser ('01) wrote the lead story for the Boston Globe on the funeral of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. To read the story, click here. Wedding Congratulations Liz Frye (‘02) and Kevin Wagahoff were married on May 2 in Hendersonville, NC. Meggie Gross ('07) and Mark Metcalf were married in Celo, NC on August 1, 2009. Births (Future Wesleyans) Glenn (‘87) and Angie Garner are pleased to announce the birth of their son, “Jack” Alexander born January 2, 2009. Thomas Walke ('93), Jenn Blackwell ('93), and daughters Olivia and Penny welcomed new arrival Caroline Isabelle Walke on April 28, 2009. Even though she was born in Wolverine territory, we hope her name insures she remains Carolina blue at heart. Carrie (Hesse) Atkins (‘02) and husband, Lucas, are the proud parents of a baby boy, Reid, born May 22, 2009. Dan (Campus ministry intern 2004 - 2005) and Courtney Randall welcome with joy and thanksgiving their daughter Ceara Louise Randall, born June 20, 2009. Andrea ('03) and Scott Venus announce the birth of their son, Cole Alexander Venus, on June 22, 2009. Blake ('00) and Tim ('00) Brookshire welcomed Adam Barefoot Brookshire on June 23, 2009. Matt ('99) and Christy ('00) Brookshire are pleased to share the news of the birth of their daughter Anna Ruth Brookshire, born on July 7, 2009.
