Thank you for your interest in Women In Action. We are a student organization of volunteers dedicated to planning events which assist women on campus. The programs we use to give this assistance vary greatly from bringing awareness to important issues to campus safety and childcare advocacy. We hope that you will join us in this ongoing mission.
Women In Action is broken up into six committees, they each play an important role, and each committee can always use more volunteers, so if you would like to help or just get more information, please contact the committee chair. If you have any questions about Women In Action in general, please contact Stephanie Kane, the volunteer coordinator, at
Women's Health and Campus safety- plans programs such as self defense classes to promote safety around the UNC campus. We also work on Take Back the Night march, which is an event during Women's Week that raises awareness and helps combat the problem of domestic violence. Contact Liz at to get more information.
Childcare advocacy- plans programs such as Mothers' Day Out for single mothers connected to the UNC campus and allows them to have a free day to study or run errands while volunteers play with their children and provide lunch. Also, for the upcoming semester, we will be holding Family University Day, look for more information about that. Please contact Ashley Shores at for more information.
Newsletter- writes the Carolina Women's Center newsletter each semester. This committee is great for those interested in writing whether you are working on building a resume, love to write, or just think it sounds like a fun idea. No writing experience is necessary, so if you are at all interested, please contact Stephanie Kane at .
Public Relations- does all the PR for our events. They do everything from pit sitting to painting cubes to visiting classrooms and flyering. This committee helps us to make all other committees' events successful. Please contact Janine Martinez at or Courtney Agar at if you are interested.
Wishlist- helps us get the things we need for our other events. This takes the form of sending donation letters, picking up food donations for events, and planning our upcoming fundraiser. This is a wonderful committee for those who enjoy working independently or have little free time. If you are interested, please contact Crystal at .
Women's Leadership Council- plans our programs such as Brown Bag lunch discussions to raise awareness of any women's issue. These issues have included everything from healthy eating on the run to portrayal of women in the media. Please contact Shannon at for more information.
